Elidel is a topical calcineurin inhibitor cream that contains pimecrolimus 1%. It is applied to affected skin only.
Elidel is used for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in adults and children 2 years of age and older as second-line therapy.
Elidel helps reduce skin inflammation linked to eczema by calming certain immune signals in the skin.
Elidel has a boxed warning because long-term safety of topical calcineurin inhibitors has not been established, and rare cases of malignancy have been reported. Use is meant to be intermittent, limited to eczema-affected areas, and not continuous long-term.
