Fragmin is a prescription blood thinner that contains dalteparin sodium, a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). It’s given by injection to help prevent or treat certain blood clots.
Fragmin may be prescribed for:
Preventing blood clots (DVT/PE) after certain surgeries, or during acute illness with restricted mobility
Reducing clot-related complications in unstable angina or certain heart attacks
Extended treatment of VTE in adults with cancer to help reduce recurrence
Treatment of VTE in pediatric patients
Fragmin helps reduce clot formation by enhancing the body’s natural anticoagulant activity, with a stronger effect on Factor Xa than on thrombin.
If you have concerning symptoms while using Fragmin, contact your prescriber as soon as possible.
Fragmin increases bleeding risk. Some patients need closer monitoring based on medical history and other medications.
